Non-accredited - Silica and Asbestos Awareness Training

This non-accredited Asbestos and Silica Awareness course is designed for workers, supervisors and others who may encounter asbestos-containing materials (ACM) or be exposed to respirable crystalline silica (RCS) during their work. It is relevant across construction, demolition, renovation, maintenance, manufacturing, mining and resources, transport, cleaning, installation and other work environments where asbestos or silica-containing materials may be present or disturbed.

Participants will learn where asbestos and crystalline silica are commonly found, the ways direct and secondary exposure can occur, the associated health risks, and how these risks are managed in the workplace. The course covers recognising potential hazards, understanding appropriate silica dust controls, and responding safely when asbestos is suspected by stopping work, avoiding further disturbance and reporting the concern in accordance with workplace procedures.

This course may support workplace asbestos and silica information, instruction and training arrangements by increasing awareness of the hazards and relevant safe work practices.

This course is non-accredited and does not, by itself, authorise participants to handle, disturb, sample, clean up or remove asbestos or suspected ACM, undertake asbestos-related or licensed asbestos removal work, or perform silica-related tasks without the controls, task-specific training, instruction and supervision required for the work.
