Course Set - Provide Workplace Mental Health Support


This course equips participants with the knowledge and skills needed to understand the concepts of mental health, recognise early signs of mental health challenges, respond appropriately, and provide meaningful support to colleagues or team members in the workplace.

Today’s workforce faces a range of pressures, including increasing workloads, interpersonal conflicts, financial stress, exposure to challenging or traumatic incidents, and psychosocial workplace hazards. These hazards, such as bullying, job insecurity, and high work demands, can significantly impact mental health. This course aims to empower participants to better understand these challenges and develop the confidence to provide support within a professional setting, fostering a safe and supportive workplace culture.

This course is intended to provide participants with the following outcomes:

  • Empowering participants with the knowledge and skills to understand workplace mental health concepts and recognise the physical, behavioural, and psychological signs indicating changes in a colleague's mental wellbeing.
  • Addressing immediate safety concerns in the aftermath of a workplace incident, distressing situation, or exposure to psychosocial hazards.
  • Knowing how to respond to emerging mental health crises, ensuring the safety of all involved and understanding how to access appropriate workplace protocols, professional help, or support services.
  • Developing an understanding of the unique mental health challenges faced in diverse workplace settings and how to provide appropriate support to promote resilience, wellbeing, and productivity.

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 6 Hours
Online with face-to-face assessment Face to Face contact time of at least 1 Hour 30 Mins

An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

  • Communication skills sufficient to engage in effective dialogue, and understand complex concepts related to mental health.

Online study options:  The online learning program can be found in the student portal. Students must have access to a computer, smart phone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online studies and practical assessment.


Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

Practical task demonstrations:

  • Case Study: Demonstrate an understanding of mental health
  • Scenario 1 - Provide Support for a mental health concern
  • Scenario 2 - Provide Support for a mental health crisis

Theory assessment - A written assessment consisting of multiple choice and short answer questions. All questions must be completed.
