Course Set - Basic Safety Training


This Basic Safety Course will enable students to support and care for themselves and others working in the several industries such as the construction, industry and resources and electrical sectors in particular by possessing the knowledge and skills of first aid, working at heights, manual handling, fire awareness and in case of an emergency, to be able to evacuate, rescue and provide appropriate first aid to casualties. For example, this course set is an industry minimum requirement before accessing a wind turbine tower.

These units of competency stands alone and incorporates the content of the following units: 

  • CPPFES2005 Demonstrate first attack firefighting equipment
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
  • HLTWHS005 Conduct manual tasks safely
  • PUASAR022 Participate in a rescue operation
  • RIIWHS204E Work safely at heights
  • UETDRMP018 Perform rescue from a live low voltage panel

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Refresher Face to Face contact time of at least 22 Hours
Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 30 Hours 30 Mins

An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

  • An official form of photo identification (e.g., driver’s licence, passport, or student ID).
  • Physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills, including CPR and performing rescue breathing techniques on manikins, as well as manual handling in the rescue of a mock casualty.
  • Psychological and physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstrations for this course, such as the undertaking of the requirements to work safely at heights , wearing appropriate PPE and using appropriate fall protection equipment. Participants will need sufficient physical ability to lift equipment infrequently from the ground to overhead and access heights above 2m.
  • Capable of working under supervision in a team while being physically able to complete individual tasks relating to a rescue, autonomously, in a range of simulated and real locations.
  • Protective slip-resistant footwear/safety shoes and comfortable/practical clothing must be provided by the student and worn during the practical sessions and assessment.
  • To successfully complete this course, students will need to demonstrate the following language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills during training and assessment:
    • Learning: Follow clear instructions, reflect on what I’ve learned, and apply it to new tasks or situations.
    • Reading: Read and understand safety procedures, workplace signs, and short documents with technical content.
    • Writing: Complete workplace forms, write short reports, and record information using clear, structured sentences.
    • Oral communication: Give and receive information clearly, take part in discussions, and respond appropriately in routine and emergency situations.
    • Numeracy: Take measurements, interpret numerical information, and do calculations related to time, distance, or quantities.
    • Digital Literacy: Able to use a mobile phone or basic device to read messages, follow online instructions, complete online forms or access learning resources.
  • Online learning: Students must have basic digital literacy skills to navigate online platforms, complete assessments, and access course materials. Before enrolment, students should assess their ability to engage in online learning. Support is available where required.

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

Theory assessment:

A written assessment consisting of short-answer and multiple-choice questions.
