This course has a pre-requisite of HLTAID015 Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy

In recent years, the use of supraglottic airway devices (SADs) has grown significantly in the pre-hospital environment. SAD insertion can provide ventilation, safeguarding the patient from low oxygen levels. SADs are preferred by healthcare providers who lack expertise in tracheal intubation for airway management

This  course is delivered in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and first aid code of practice and applies to those who may be required to provide 

Simulated real-life situations will be used to develop the skills and knowledge for using and maintaining specialised equipment for the provision of airway access and maintenance. 

Instruction on  inserting an appropriate SAD will be provided

The i-gel is a second generation supraglottic airway device which has changed the face of airway management and is now widely used in resuscitation across the globe.

This course has been designed to introduce the SAD, with a focus on the i-gel device.

Indications for use

Contraindications

SAD insertion techniques

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 2 Hours

Participants must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as providing CPR on the floor and performing rescue breathing techniques using a Bag Valve Mask (BVM) on manikins.

This course has a pre-requisite of HLTAID015 Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy which much be completed either prior to undertaking this unit of competency. 

This certificate has an industry recommended renewal period of 12 months
