Emergency Control Organisation Training - Chief Warden/Area Warden/Warden and Extinguisher
Non-accredited trainingThe Emergency Control Organisation (ECO) is the team of people responsible for responding in the event of an emergency that arises internally or externally that may affect the facility. The ECO will respond to the emergency, initiate emergency procedures as per your emergency plan and control entry to any affected areas until emergency services arrive. Wardens are a core role in the ECO and are responsible for checking that all areas of the facility are clear and communicating to the Chief Warden (directly or through an Area Warden).
The course applies to individuals who may be required to make decisions about the safety of occupants of a facility during an emergency and to give instructions on the priority order for responding to an emergency incident, including command, control and coordination of facility emergency response procedures and concluding the facility emergency incident. They may also be required to act as the primary liaison with emergency services. Individuals who undertake this role will generally be members of an Emergency Control Organisation (ECO), acting as chief wardens, deputy chief wardens and communications officers.
Warden/ECO training is designed to facilitate compliance to Section 43 of the WHS Regulation 2017 – Duty to prepare, maintain and implement emergency plan. The course structure aims to apply recommendations from section 5 of the Safe Work Australia Code of Practice – Managing the Work Environment and Facilities and provide training, information and advice in line with best practice and AS3745-2010 Planning for Emergencies in Facilities – in particular section 5 Emergency Control Organisation and Section 6 Training. It applies to employees in the workplace within all industries and in all contexts.
Fire Awareness and Safety Training is much more than simple fire extinguisher training. During the fire awareness session, students will learn how fire grows and spreads given the right conditions, fire containment techniques, what fire is made of and how different first attack firefighting equipment work. The session is concluded with a demonstration of fire blanket and/or fire hose reel and then each student will be given an opportunity to extinguish a live fire using portable fire extinguishers.
