Disability Support Emergency Response and Fire Safety Training

Non-accredited training

Site Specific emergency response training for Disability Support Workers in a Supported Independent Living (SIL) facility in compliance with NSW WHS Regulation section 43, AS4083, Planning for Emergencies in Healthcare Facilities and AS3745-2010 Planning for Emergencies in Facilities.

Training sessions are designed to give workers the knowledge, skill and ability to confidently make decisions about the priority order for responding to emergency incidents like a building fire, hostile intruder, bushfire, flood or medical emergency.

The session provides effective methods for maintaining the safety of mobility impaired occupants during an emergency until emergency services arrive.

Fire Awareness and Safety Training provides students with an understanding of how fire grows, and spreads given the right conditions. Students learn fire containment techniques and what fire is made of and are then shown how various first attack firefighting equipment work. The session is concluded with a demonstration of fire blanket and/or fire hose reel and then each student will be given an opportunity to extinguish a live fire using portable fire extinguishers.
