SISCAQU022 - Provide oxygen resuscitation and therapy in an aquatic environment


This course is designed for safety personnel who attend incidents, particularly in an aquatic environment, where the use of oxygen in either lifesaving or the ongoing management of a casualty is appropriate. Students will acquire the skills and knowledge required to administer oxygen and ventilate the lungs in an emergency situation as well as assess the casualty and develop a management plan; maintain an unobstructed airway and resuscitate a casualty; use oxygen to provide therapy. Students will also learn to check, recover and restore equipment. The instruction is taught in accordance with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 6 Hours

This course set has a pre-requisite unit of:

  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid


An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

  • Physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills including CPR*

*Important note: In order to issue an accredited certificate, CPR must be performed on the floor with no exemptions.

The First Aid Guide Companion Volume to the HLT Training Package states:

β€˜It is important to note that the HLTAID competency standards do require a level of physical ability to meet the evidence requirements for assessment. These standards relate to the level of performance required to provide resuscitation and respond to an emergency situation where there may be risk to life.

Due to the potential risk to health and safety where a nominated first aider, or worker with duty of care, does not have the ability to perform resuscitation and/or first aid to the performance standard it is not appropriate to issue a Statement of Attainment to students who are physically unable to meet the assessment requirements.’

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

This certificate has an industry recommended renewal period of 12 months

Performance tasks and practical scenarios:

  • Oxygen – Pre-use check procedures
  • Adult CPR (incl. 2 mins of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR, 2 mins bag-valve-mask and 2 mins compression two-rescuer CPR, defibrillation,  managing oxygen equipment appropriately and managing an unconscious breathing casualty)
  • Child CPR (incl. 2 mins of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR, 2 mins bag-valve-mask and 2 mins compression two-rescuer CPR, defibrillation,  managing oxygen equipment appropriately and managing an unconscious breathing casualty)
  • Provide supplemental oxygen

Theory assessment β€“ A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.
